The Maryland Black Family Alliance is a coalition of Black families and leaders. We are people of many faiths. We stand for fairness, justice and equality for all families.

As African Americans, we know that discrimination is wrong and that it damages us all when we exclude any group of Americans from the protections that other Americans enjoy.

  • We believe that love and commitment are the essence of family and that family is the foundation of strong Black communities.

  • We seek to ensure that all Black families – including those led by committed same-sex couples – have the full protection of the law.

  • We support civil marriage and legal protection for committed same-sex couples, which will help ensure that families headed by gays and lesbians can share health insurance, visit each other in the hospital, and make medical decisions for their loved ones in times of crisis.

  • We seek to serve African Americans in Maryland by educating and empowering them to be strong allies for their LGBT family members and neighbors.
